Advisor Picture  In 1997 while employed with the City of Dayton Kentucky as a police officer, I noticed that the area did not have any programs to enhance community relations between the Police department and citizens. In 1998 I was selected as a Drug abuse resistance education "D.A.R.E." Instructor, and attended an 80 hour two week course of training with the Kentucky State Police in Lake Cumberland Kentucky. There I met another Police Officer attending training from Phoenix Arizona Police department who told me about the Law Enforcement Explorer program that they have, and told how the program helped students and citizens relate to the police agency. When I returned to my agency after completing the training I received an information packet about Law Enforcement Explorer program from the Learning for Life Dan Beard council of Cincinnati Ohio office. I began recruiting for members of the post and after three months I had my first post of five members. Then came the problem of funding. Funding was made possible by donations and other community support. The funding helped raise money to purchase membership to the Boys and Girls scouts of America and uniforms that the members had to purchase. Currently after years of attempting to raise a yearly budget for the post the City of Villa Hills council has permitted partial funding for our post. We are also assisted by local area businesses and our citizens yearly to make this program exist. Because of this type of funding we no longer have to have the members of the post buy their uniforms and other equipment. We pride our post being unique from others that it is set up exactly like a police agency. We have a process that is similar to your experience when you apply to a Law Enforcement agency having a testing procedure, back ground investigation, physical standards etc. By having this I hope to enhance interests and educate its members to knowing what to expect when they accomplish their dreams to become a Law Enforcement Agent or Officer. My goal is not only to enhance Community and Police relations but also to supply and train a better Police Officer or Agent for the future of Law Enforcement. "I have learned, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." -- Henry Thoreau
